A Black Girl's Digest:

An Analysis of Any and Everything I Want to Say

About Me

ebony.jpg

Hello! And welcome to my blog. My name is Ebony Purks and I'm a student majoring in English with a concentration in professional writing. I thoroughly enjoy reading and writing, so I created Black Girl's Digest as an outlet to express my thoughts about literature, film, and more in a way that doesn't further annoy my friends and family. In all seriousness though, I want Black Girl's Digest to be a safe space for creative expression not just for myself, but for my readers. Whether ten people, or ten thousand people, read my writing my intention is to simply spread knowledge (and encourage all of you to do the same).
As I previously mentioned, I love to read. I enjoy reading a wide variety of genres, but my favorite books are ones that teach me something new (as I'm a proud Ravenclaw with HufflePuff undertones). Some of my favorite reads are "Bad Feminists" by Roxanne Gay, "The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield, and "Letter to My Daughter" by Maya Angelou.
I also love yoga, YouTube, and listening to podcasts.
Furthermore, I'm on a steady journey of self discovery and I appreciate everyone who is willing to take that journey with me. I read somewhere that to be a writer is to be an activist. I want to use this platform to advocate for myself and all of you. Thank you so much for coming to my blog and taking the time to read the "About me" section, you're a real one. So, thank you again for reading and hope you enjoy!

Desk with Book

Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?

'Cause I walk like I got oil wells

Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Maya Angelou
